Pros

Microsoft has lots of money, so the labs are well-furnished. The Redmond campus is a nice place to work.

Cons

They have imposed an absurdly ridiculous security policy intended to reduce leaks of information about their hardware development. These half-baked policies are laughable, easily worked-around by anyone motivated to do so, and their only effect is to greatly reduce the amount of communication, teamwork, and collaboration. Their two-tier culture of salaried versus contract is also extremely detrimental to teamwork.

Advice to Management

You need to realize that any half-capable engineer who sets about to harm the company with security leaks can do so. So stop trying to force security down from the top, and instead work on creating a positive team atmosphere that minimizes the motivation for employees to harm the company. That, in the end, is your only defense.
