Pros

Coworkers are very smart and motivated. People are professional and polite. We work with leading-edge technology. Convenient location. Well-defined goals. Good pay rate (for hourly contractors). Easy communication (via Lync).

Cons

Goals change frequently.

No benefits for hourly contractors.

Contractors are usually shut out of important meetings, so we don't know what's going on.

Frequent last-minute work requests.

Too much secrecy about certain projects makes it hard to get things done (have to test against unknown project specifications).

Vee-dash contractors will have to take a 6-month hiatus from building access after 18 months, starting in Jan 2016.

Most contract agencies skim too much off the top, while providing minimal benefits (no sick days, no vacation, terrible health plan).

Advice to Management

Does Microsoft need so many program managers?

Taking away V-dash building access effectively ends contractors' jobs—don't do it!
