Pros

People are relaxed. You can come and go as you need. Deadlines are met. Resources and networking are abundant. There are lots of benefits and rewards, like an on-site bike shop and an eyeglasses store (Redmond, WA).

Cons

Poor chains of command.

They try to instill fear of anyone in the top 200.

Communication can be extremely low.

They treat "v-employees" on a totally different level than FTEs.

Advice to Management

I have sat with the top 10 at Microsoft; they are nice and respectful men and women. There is no point in playing the fear game with them. Some of them even crack jokes, and you should be able to be yourself around them with a slight bit more respect, but do not make us fake it.

Also, knowing who your boss is, who their boss is, and what they do would be nice.
