Pros

Great benefits.

Work/life balance.

There is a variety of teams and projects to work on.

Cons

Variable quality of teams.

Large organizations move very slowly. Total lack of agility.

Over-staffed in some areas – people are there to ensure they have jobs, not to make new products.

Work at principal level starts to become more about fixing the organization, rather than interesting technical or product issues.

Advice to Management

Improve guidance and career options for 65+ engineers. Prune teams that are obviously dead weight. Don't play the field so much; choose a strategy and execute on it, rather than exploring every possible outcome.
