Honestly, there are some really great people at Microsoft. My immediate staff are pleasant to be around, and my boss is nice. But it is very team dependent.
They do not pay as much as other big tech companies. The culture has gone downhill a little bit in the past couple years, and there is a bad job of job/task assignment.
Be clear about what you want from your employees. Pay the market rate.
