Pros

Customer impact is generally quite high. No doubt that your efforts will have an impact on real customers. Excellent benefits.

Cons

The stigma between SDE and SDET is still alive and breathing.

Advice to Management

Let go of the 'brain teaser' style of interviewing and focus on pragmatic skills and cognitive resonance. Technical wizardry is rarely the thing that makes a project succeed. Getting people who work well together and communicate is far more useful than hiring recluses that can code A-to-I in assembly language but lack the fundamental ability to communicate rationally and build plans that require integrated teamwork.
