Pros
  • Opportunity to meet and work with some of the smartest people in the software industry.
  • Possible opportunity to work in fast-paced environments and on projects that go from very small to very large.
Cons
  • Review system is not fair. 10% of all employees WILL be given the message that they are on track to be managed out.
  • Some managers are amazing, but most are poorly trained and are quick to use the easy tools (fear, micromanagement) as opposed to the more difficult but more rewarding tactics (inspiration, leadership as a service).
Advice to Management

A good place to go if you are a well-seasoned engineer and can work well on your own. The review system is a game you'll need to pick up quickly to ensure you get a decent piece of the 'pie'.
