It really depends on which org/product you are working on and who you are working with

Pros

Gain some experience working with large-scale software.

Cons

Unless you are really technically exceptional, technical skills won't help you too much in moving up the ranks. It's the division/org/product where you are working and who you are working with that matters. I have been working with developers titled Principal or Senior that know little and are very incompetent in technical skills.

Advice to Management

We have so many PMs that really do nothing; they should be removed.
