It's a congregation of really smart people. You get to learn a lot. You get to contribute a lot as well.
There is nothing like an employee being allowed to work on his/her interests. I often found myself stealing time to learn something new, and my manager thought I was avoiding work. It's a hard time for you trying to grow professionally.
Also, there is always a clash of egos between developers and SDETs on the same level. I always see myself fighting to convince others that I am as technical or more technical than the developers, since I keep feeling every step of the way that I am being treated as an inferior corporate citizen.
I really don't see a way out with the way things work in this company. It's hard to change culture in a company this old and this big.
