Pay is comparable and often times higher than competitors. Redmond is a great location and is located close to Seattle, which has plenty of stuff to do. Microsoft flies you out for interviews, which gives you a chance to see the location.
Like every company, there are pros and cons when working at Microsoft. Microsoft is a large company with lots of workers, and one can get "lost in the crowd". You need to stand out to get noticed.
