Microsoft takes care of its interns. The pay was competitive, and the events were well-planned. They really went the extra mile to convince us that this was THE place to work. I got lucky with both the group and project I was assigned, so others may have had a different experience, but I found it both challenging and engaging—real work with real application.
It's a huge company; it's easy to get lost or feel powerless to effect change. Also, the triad of program manager, engineer, and tester doesn't always operate at full efficiency. I was only there for 3 months, though.
