Pros

The medical benefits at Microsoft are easily the best in the US, especially if you have a family.

Lots of interesting projects to work on.

In many teams, a lot of freedom to manage your time.

Salary in general is good for the cost of living in Seattle.

Cons
  • Abysmal stock performance.
  • Most managers have no idea how to manage.
  • Reviews and promotions are very unfair.
  • In many teams, the fight for visibility stops people from doing real, useful work.
  • As a developer, you rarely talk to a customer.
  • What do PMs do, again?
Advice to Management
  • Good developers rarely make good managers.
  • Many teams are dysfunctional because of the competitiveness among peers.
