Pros

Microsoft has a great culture, and the people are wonderful to work with. They have a great work/life balance with lots of flexibility. The benefits were amazing.

Cons

As priorities changed, I found myself working on very different work than I was hired for, which I didn't enjoy as much and couldn't perform as well in.

It was frustrating because I felt there was still valuable work in my area of expertise, but it was being almost eliminated from the list of priorities. There wasn't much to assist in a transition to a new role; only pressure to adapt to the change.

Advice to Management

I think having more help to transition into better positions as products change could be very valuable in keeping people working in their best areas, rather than enforcing flexibility. Specialized experience can bring a lot of value, and losing that entirely because a specific team no longer needs it is unfortunate.
