Depending on the team, as with most large companies, there can be quite a few politics involved in promotions and project distribution lifecycles.

Diversity and Inclusion initiatives can feel fairly shallow and more for press than true culture change.

Before lay-offs, it was known to be pretty hard to get fired at Microsoft. Because of this, there are some dinosaurs sticking around that slow down social and technical progress.
