Culture wars rage. The latest layoffs targeted employees who made their leaders uncomfortable. No more vacation; vacation is now at the discretion of managers. If they don't want you to take off, you can't.
Shed VPs who have been in the same role for more than 10 years. Just doing that would have given MSFT more cash back than all the other layoffs.
