Pros

Many have left, but there are still some dynamic, deep-diving, technical people working here as devs and managers.

Cons

Funding is being slashed to feed investments in AI and make stock prices go up. Windows engineering systems infrastructure seems to be on life support, but this is not acknowledged by leadership.

Also, there is no real oversight of managers' performance reviews (internally called Connects). Even if you have hard evidence (emails, history in Azure DevOps tasks/deliverables/scenarios), a bad manager can mark you as Lower Impact Than Expected (LITE) and basically flag you for termination at their personal whim.

Advice to Management

Provide a channel for feedback on the Connect form if an employee has material objections to their manager's assessment. Directors do not want to trigger an HR audit by removing a LITE from an already-submitted Connect.

M1s do not discuss their Connect evaluations with reports before submitting them. This should also be required.
