Pros
  • Good compensation
  • Good work/life balance
  • Definitely get to work on interesting and fascinating things.
Cons
  • The toxic, politicized yearly review system means the focus is on individual competition rather than team collaboration.

  • It's very difficult to find the right people to connect with to get things done, simply a matter of scale. As a result, the company probably runs at 10% efficiency just due to churn and communication loss.

  • A lot of people have bought the Kool-Aid, which leads to some poor decisions.

Advice to Management
  • Make the review process more transparent, or you risk hemorrhaging more good people.
  • Remove the nepotistic aspects of reviews; work should be rewarded, not how much your manager can fight during calibration.
