Good, knowledgeable teams: engineers and PMs.
Good benefits.
Decent pay.
Lack of promotion from within. Some directors of engineering, some managers, and leads can be cliquey. This prevents promotion based on the majority of individual contributors' work, as they do not fit into the clique of white, male individuals who are into drinking beer and wine, chatting around, and playing games rather than actual working.
Leadership in Redmond needs to address the engineering directors, leads, and managers cliques. This is demotivating hard-working individual contributors and sends a message that our contributions do not count. What seems to count is if you fit into a clique, drink beer or wine, chat, and play games rather than actually work. Then you get promoted, or they bring external persons in who fit this clique.
Applied on their company website, and about two weeks later, the hiring manager reached out to schedule a technical screening interview. After completing the screen, I proceeded to four virtual onsite interviews.
The interview process consisted of 4 rounds. There were three LeetCode rounds and one system design round. The LeetCode problems were medium to hard level, and the system design round was high-level.
A screening phone call from a senior software engineer. There was one coding question, and I had about 30 minutes to solve it. I solved the problem verbally pretty quickly, but it took a while to figure out the details in the actual coding section.
