Work-life balance cannot be focused on. When you are in India, you are expected to take care of the business during IST hours; however, all your management calls will be during US timings. If you want to have global visibility in a lot of businesses, you need to be available during the first half of the US timezone, at least. Else, you will only be known for the business you run and nothing more.
Be ready to work 13-15 hours. If you manage that, you can go places.
The potential for India managers to have counterparts within the engineering teams during the IST timezone is still a gap. A huge presence of which is still in the US.
I must also say things have improved with engineering presence being built up in Hyd/Blr.
