It all started when a 'big company' contacted me through my Naukri profile and invited me for an interview.
I went to their office on the Outer Ring Road in Ecospace, navigating through what felt like rivers, mountains, and oceans of traffic. I was late, but they didn't mind. They put me into a room with other applicants waiting for their rounds. There was an average gap of one hour between each round. I had lunch on campus and left in the evening.
1st Round: This was a deep dive into core Java features, including Java 8 features, nested classes, constructor invocation order with respect to subclasses, overriding and hiding of fields and methods, and default methods.
2nd Round: This round was purely on Data Structures and Algorithms. I was asked to print a tree in zigzag level order traversal and to reverse an integer given in string format.
3rd Round: This was a design round, mixing Data Structures, Algorithms, and Java. I had to implement a data structure that could get, put, and sum all elements (integers) in O(1) time. There was also a question on Dependency Injection and a problem solution using generics. I was also asked about my previous work and projects, and if I had any questions for them. I asked and learned that the work was not purely technical, which was a bit disappointing.
After waiting for an hour, I was asked to leave for the day. The traffic jam on the Ecospace campus road took 45 minutes to reach the main road, and I wondered if I should ever join a company within Ecospace.
Days later, the HR gave me an offer letter, and salary discussions took place. They were somewhat reluctant to offer above 12 LPA, citing the difference between campus hiring and lateral hiring. This seemed meaningless, as the average salary for the position on Glassdoor was 15 LPA. Nevertheless, I agreed.
However, I later became discouraged from joining due to the fixed work hours, the hectic and not 100% technical nature of the work, and the below-average salary.
