Process

Fake Women's Drive for Java Developer by Morgan Stanley, Bangalore on 23rd June 2018.

Don't ruin people's weekends; value others' time.

They asked everyone to come by 8:30 AM, where a senior VP would speak about Morgan Stanley.

At around 11:30 AM, they gave the written programming test (on paper) with two problems:

  • Print a binary tree in spiral order.
  • Given a mapping between cities, print the complete path from a source city to a destination city.

I solved both problems correctly and submitted the paper in 45 minutes.

After one hour of submission, HR asked me to leave for the day. I said, "What??"

I asked HR to recheck my paper and bring back the answer sheet I had submitted.

After coming home, I wrote the programs on my laptop, and both gave the expected results.

Three possibilities arise from this:

  • Their interviewer panel may not be capable enough to understand recursive code.
  • They might have organized this women's drive solely for showcasing that they conduct women's drives, like other big brands.
  • They may not have checked the papers at all and simply assembled a crowd for marketing Morgan Stanley as a great place to work for women.

What is the point of taking a written test when you are not evaluating the solutions? Please do not waste people's weekends by conducting fake drives.

Attached is a copy of my answer sheet submitted to Morgan Stanley.

For the past two weeks, they have followed up several times to confirm my presence, only to gather a crowd for marketing their brand.

Perhaps by doing these activities, they want to brand their name as the best place to work for women employees.
