Senior Software Engineer I Interview Experience - Portland, Oregon

July 1, 2020

Process

I applied directly for a position in June of 2020. A recruiter reached out for a call after a couple weeks.

They ended up rescheduling once, missing the interview entirely the second time, and were 15 minutes late for the call on the third attempt. After the call, I was set up to talk with a hiring manager, and that went well.

A couple weeks later, I got an email back from the recruiter to tell me they wanted to schedule an interview. I immediately responded but didn't hear back for another week. At that point, I had already received an offer elsewhere, and let New Relic know of my situation and that I was still interested in pursuing an opportunity with them.

The same recruiter said she'd call me on Friday. She didn't call me. She said she would call me Monday morning, and then didn't again. At that point, I told them to remove me as a candidate.

As a Portland Ruby developer, I've always held New Relic in high regard. I used to go to their Ruby meetups 7 years ago when I was self-teaching myself programming, and I always had the sense that they were a great company with a lot of talent. After this experience, I don't think I will ever try applying again, and it has definitely ruined my impression of New Relic.
