I had an amazing experience, even though it didn't end up with an offer.

The role was very specific. They required both knowledge in Java and in managing Kafka platforms in production.

I only had experience with Java backend development and Kafka from the client side, but not managing Kafka infrastructure. However, the Engineering Manager, David, encouraged me to apply anyway, so I did.

The process was amazing and fast. It consisted of:

• A screening round with HR
• A round with the EM for a background check
• A round of Java live coding
• A round of Kafka theory
• A final behavioral interview

I did okay in the live coding round, although I had some difficulties with the platform they use, called Coderpad.

For the Kafka round, all based on theory, I answered all I could. I spent the whole weekend studying to prepare for it, and more or less I think I could give the impression that I had knowledge of the big picture, only lacking real-world experience.

For the behavioral round, it felt like I was talking to a friend. Very good people overall.

Everyone during the process was so nice and friendly, and even though it didn't end up with an offer, I received very detailed feedback after the process from Javier (the recruiter), which is always appreciated.

Javier accompanied me during the whole process in a very professional way.

Live coding was related to explaining what the code was meant to do, fixing a bug, refactoring, and some additional follow-up questions. You only have one hour, and since you will be coding in Coderpad and not your local environment, my advice is to not spend that much time with refactoring and to try to get to the follow-up questions stage.

Kafka round was just pure theory and questions regarding "what would you do in x hypothetical case".

Behavioral was pretty chill with regular questions. Just be yourself and honest.
