Pros

None. Benefits were great, as was the final salary pension scheme, but these have all gone. Combined with low base salaries, this makes for a poor compensation package.

Cons

Incompetent management. Nepotism/cronyism. Bullying. Poor rewards. Poor procedures and poor quality training materials make it impossible to work. Middle management's interpretation of service delivery is laughable and self-serving. Engineers are overworked and expected to be available 24/7/365 to compensate for delayed, overrunning projects that are poorly planned due to management-imposed time/budgetary pressures.

Advice to Management

Senior management need to take a long, hard look at what middle management are delivering and how they're delivering.

Compliance with ITIL best practice is paid lip service but is ignored in practice.

Implementation of personnel reviews/appraisals should allow engineers to review their management so that a whole view of performance is obtained.
