Senior Hardware Engineer Interview Experience

Positive ExperienceGot Offer

Process

Three phone screens:

  • One technical interview (lot of SystemVerilog/UVM questions). Scoreboard and past work experience; this was tough.

  • Two manager/technical phone interviews: Test planning, previous work experience, interests, and general questions.

Questions

After three phone screens, I was invited on-site.

Four rounds:

  • Verification (SV, UVM questions), coverage, knowledge on tools, simulator (VCS) questions, how to write a test plan. I was given a simple DUT and asked questions about a scoreboard for the design (I spent 40 minutes writing a scoreboard code in UVM).
  • Perl: Problem-solving skills were tested using Perl. Complicated hash usage and basic file I/O were observed.
  • Lunch: General technical discussions. "Where do you see yourself?"
  • Logic design stuff.

I was in a hurry to get an offer because I had others in hand, so I forced the HR to give a decision immediately. I got the offer the next day, with good pay.
