Challenging But Learning With Best
Graduate Software Developer • Current Employee

Pros: Trading Company, so will definitely learn the things with the best players.
Cons: Very challenging to work, as the expectation is very high.

Toxic Culture, Poor Balance
Software Development Engineer (SDE) • Former Employee
Shanghai, Shanghai, China
September 16, 2025
Pros: Optiver is not a good place to work. Its culture is too toxic. I cannot say any pros, except its payment is higher than most IT companies, which you exchange for both your mental and physical health.
Cons: Culture is toxic.
Worse and worse work-life balance in the Shanghai office.
No career development.
Most IT managers are incapable; they just keep pushing.

High paying but pretentious
Application Engineer • Current Employee
Amsterdam, Netherlands
February 4, 2025
Pros: Many talented colleagues.
Great compensation (salary, bonus, massages, good coffee, decent food 3 times a day).
Cons: Claims ‘people are key,’ however:
* Compensation is often used as an excuse to be treated badly.
* More than once, you are reminded that tech doesn’t earn the money. What trading wants, trading gets.
More so, there’s a lot of focus towards public appearance, while internally there are only eyes on how to make more money.
