The interview consisted of a total of 4 rounds.
The first was a telephonic round with basic Java and JavaScript questions.
After a long wait and a couple of follow-ups with HR, further rounds were scheduled.
The second round was a coding and technical round, which was cleared after basic questions were asked.
Things were fine until the second round. However, from the third round, they started asking puzzles that were not coding-related but game puzzles. I was surprised by these puzzles but managed to solve them. Instead of a system design round, they repeated the second-round questions, which we solved again.
Suddenly, the manager announced one more round before the technomanagerial round. This was unplanned, as I was expecting the technomanagerial round next. Nevertheless, I agreed.
I joined the virtual meeting for the design interview. At the end, the manager asked about my current CTC, expected CTC, and notice period, details I had already provided to HR. To my surprise, he questioned why I was getting such a high CTC and stated they couldn't offer what I was expecting, initiating negotiations and offering less than my current CTC.
I explained that I wasn't sure this would be a salary discussion round and mentioned I could not join for less than my current CTC. The manager then said he would get back to me.
After many follow-ups, I was ghosted and never received a response. I am unsure why they conduct interviews if they cannot pay and already have the candidate's salary expectations well before starting the process.
