Process

TL;DR: It was a very negative experience, and I doubt I will ever apply to this company again due to the lack of professionalism and the acute rudeness displayed.

I submitted my application on their job portal for a Graduate Cloud Server Developer position in London, United Kingdom.

After a few days, I received an email from the Hiring Manager stating that one of their interviewers tried to call me at 10 AM on a working day. This was unexpected, as I hadn't scheduled a phone interview; my only interaction so far had been submitting my application. I didn't think much of it, assuming this was their standard interview process, and replied to schedule a phone interview.

On the day of the scheduled interview, the interviewer was supposed to call me at a specific time, but this did not happen. I didn't receive any email about the interviewer requesting a reschedule. After almost an hour of waiting, I finally called them to inquire. Long story short, the interviewer had an "emergency" to attend to. I didn't dwell on it, hoping they were alright, and we rescheduled for another day.

On the rescheduled day, the interviewer finally called. The interview started well with behavioral questions, which I felt I answered effectively. However, the technical questions that followed were a massive cringefest.

I was asked about my previous independent and university projects, specifically a Java system and a Ruby on Rails app that were listed on my resume. The interviewer wanted to know more about them.

While I understand if she had only recently learned about these technologies, her demeanor was extremely rude. At one point, for no apparent reason, I was asked point-blank, "Now, don't lie to me, is Ruby on Rails full-stack or front-end?". I could understand if my answers were vague or if I assumed too much about her knowledge of Ruby on Rails, but the "don't lie to me" comment was entirely unwarranted.

During the technical questions, there were many other instances of rudeness, but that particular remark stood out the most.

We then moved on to other questions, such as whether I planned to pursue a Master's degree or move to another country in the future. These are legitimate questions, but she frequently interrupted me and rushed through them, as if simply ticking off boxes. Even when I sensed I was providing too much detail, she continued to hurry the process and interrupt me, overall displaying plain rudeness.

Finally, I was asked if I would be available for an on-site interview to discuss my projects in detail and if I would be comfortable bringing pieces of code for the team to review, either on a laptop or a sheet of paper.

After answering, we concluded the interview, and I never heard from them again, not even a polite "unfortunately, we had better candidates" email.

Overall, a very bad experience.
