Software Engineer Interview Experience - Austin, Texas

Process

The interview process consists of three steps:

  1. 50-minute live coding assessment with Karat: This includes a few short "identify the issue" problems and one longer coding challenge. The video is then sent to PayPal. The initial interview email from Karat was a bit misleading—it suggested the analysis and discussion would be in JavaScript, but only the longer problem was. The shorter ones were in an unfamiliar, non-traditional language that wasn’t Python, C#, C++, Java, JavaScript, or TypeScript.

  2. Recruiter call: A discussion about your background, PayPal, the team, and the overall hiring process.

  3. Final 4-hour video round: This includes four interviews:

    • Problem Solving (Coding)
    • Design Logic & Maintainability (Coding)
    • System Design
    • Work Practices (with a break in between).
