I worked at Xoom, which was acquired and became a PayPal service. PayPal allowed Xoom to keep its own culture and hierarchy, which worked wonders for the engineering team. We kept doing the same kind of work, with the same structure, but with the financial stability and great benefits provided by PayPal.
