Software Engineer Interview Experience

Process

The hiring process was generally smooth. The phone screen was fun, and I enjoyed a delicious, though brief, lunch there. I interviewed with five people, most of whom were amicable and interesting.

Their questioning styles varied:

  • One interviewer was open-ended about previous experience.
  • Another focused on architectural concepts.
  • The remaining interviewers concentrated on scholastic algorithmic experience, O notation, and data structures.

This entire process took only a couple of weeks from the initial resume submission to getting a feel for the positions from the recruiter.

Questions

Whiteboard: Full code without helper functions to take an n-length array with n-length words in it.

Find the longest word that can chain to a 3-letter word (in the array) by taking out any one letter and becoming an anagram for a shorter word in the array.
