Process
The interview process was smooth. It began with an intro call with a recruiter, followed by two phone screens. These screens involved sharing my screen to demonstrate my environment.
Finally, an on-site interview took place. The on-site interview consisted of two sessions:
- One session focused on system design.
- The other was a coding exercise performed on my computer in my environment.
I also met with each of the founders. The interview lasted about half the day. I was given the opportunity to ask many questions about the company and the technical problems they are working on.

Pros: - A disruptive player that is uniquely positioned within the fintech ecosystem.
- I work with some of the brightest people in the Bay Area who have truly innovative ideas.
- The culture encourages innovation and challenging the status quo.
Cons: An extremely difficult co-founder and CTO to work with and for. He genuinely feels that his ideas are supreme over others, micromanages, is highly abrasive, argumentative, allows very little room to negotiate, conveys a very different side during interviews in order to "close" candidates, and has "bro" tendencies. He has pushed out several great and talented people.

Pros: - The FinTech space is interesting.
- Colleagues are smart.
Cons: - The business has never really recovered to previous COVID heights, and valuation has been cut severely.
- Fast approaching need to raise more funding. And in the absence of revenue growth, leadership is cutting teams down to skeleton crews to boost short-term financials.
- Constant silent layoffs and no backfills that create a toxic environment around staffing.
- The new president operates as a very sr. program manager with no real product vision, and the CTO was never replaced.
- New 1033 legislation means the core business has a very uncertain future.
