Pros
  • Great work-life balance at the senior level
  • Easy to move to other teams
  • Supports extra education like graduate programs, AWS certifications, and has learning resources
  • Opportunities to move up the ladder
Cons
  • Not the highest paying for senior roles
  • A lot of compliance and red tape to make changes and have an impact
  • Life Insurance and Annuities business can be slow to adopt technological change
  • Developer experience is a bit of an afterthought and doesn't feel like a top priority although is slowly improving
  • Diverse workforce
Advice to Management
  • Get feedback from developers and other ICs before making a sweeping change in the tech stack
  • Don't rewrite old programs if they work and are easy to maintain
  • Cut down ramp-up time on the onboarding process that should take days and not weeks or months to contribute because new hires burnout from this
