I was invited to visit campus and get familiar with the company environment. When I got there, I was invited to interview with one of the Engineering Directors. I was told that the position they were looking to fill was for a manager in their core group. The position, I was told, did not require technical knowledge but was more about project management skills and leading the team. The next day, I was invited to take a technical online test. I was surprised to see it, since it was clearly indicated during the phone screening and 1:1 interview that they were looking for managers, not developers. I put my best effort into it, but I definitely didn't answer all of the questions as a seasoned developer would. After the test review by their engineering team, I was told that it was not a good fit.
The whole interview process seemed very ad hoc, where the recruiter had no knowledge of what the hiring manager wanted, and vice versa. I was upset that my time was wasted. I would not have gone through the process if they were looking for a developer in the first place.
