I was contacted by a Pure Recruitment coordinator through LinkedIn for a Storage Hardware Engineer position, followed by two rounds of phone interviews (with the Hiring Manager and Director).
During the phone interviews, they were interested in my background as they are in the same field. Both the Hiring Manager and Director had the same background and were from SanDisk. They liked my profile and wanted me to interview onsite.
The onsite interview was scheduled by the coordinator for two consecutive days, lasting around 9 hours each, with 8 team members.
Since I was located a 3-hour drive from Pure HQ, they asked me to drive in on the morning of the interview day, interview later that day, do the same the next day, and then drive back. They did not consider accommodating me for two nights, even after I requested it.
Puritans claim to have no ego, but I did notice egoism and arrogance in a couple of interviewers. They claim to be disrupting technology, but it looks like they have a bunch of sales team (around 1000 folks out of a total of 1500 employees, mostly hired from competitor EMC) pushing a couple of solutions they claim to have. The engineering team is around 200, and it looks like after going public, the only disruption is the people.
Day 1 Interview: I drove onsite around noon. They had asked me to arrive after the lunch hour. I interviewed with 5 team members on software, storage technologies, and a behavioral round. I went back to the hotel to prepare for the second day's interview.
Day 2 Interview: The interview was supposed to start at 11 AM and run until about 4 PM. I received a call from the recruitment coordinator saying the team decided not to proceed and that I could head back.
This was the painful part; they could have informed me the previous evening or considered interviewing me with the rest of the panel. Since one round did not go well, they outright said no and did not have the courtesy to follow up.
After the phone interview, the coordinator was insisting that the hiring manager really liked my profile, but onsite, they didn't even have the courtesy to finish the interview.
To the best of my knowledge, the interview went well except for one round where the interviewer and I were going back and forth with the problem statement.
Overall, I had an unpleasant experience with the interview process and wouldn't recommend anyone unless they are sure to expect rudeness from the "puritans." The shares have been declining since the company went public, and it looks like all disruption is done, and this company is heading towards an acquisition for the management to make big bucks.
