Cons: Lack of training; I need to dig for that knowledge myself.

Pros: Decent benefits. Easy to gain experience even if you don't have any (careful, this is also a con).

Cons: Everything gets lost in translation. Too many layers of management that don't have a clue about the technology below surface level. Low talent gets put into high talent-required positions because management doesn't know what makes a good engineer. You can tell it's been a cycle of promoting unqualified people for over a decade. As a software engineer in a hardware heavyweight industry, I recommend you stay away. If you want a good software company to grow in, make sure you pick a team which understands what it takes to build good quality, scalable, extensible software.
