Structural Engineering Intern Interview Experience - Los Angeles, California

August 1, 2020
Neutral ExperienceNo Offer

Process

The first round was a technical interview with a manager. They asked questions involving both data structures and space complexity, but not necessarily about structures themselves. The interviewer wasn't the most warming individual, but overall, it was a fine interview.

Questions

Conceptual questions, such as: What happens to a candle that is lit in a spacecraft? You have two concentric pieces of material; one is steel, and one is aluminum. How do they deform when an external load is applied to both at the same time? What is the elastic modulus of steel and aluminum? What is the difference between using a tape measure to measure something on the ground versus on the ceiling?
