Pros
  • Fast-paced and efficient without the backbreaking work that other new space companies often impose on employees
  • Leadership generally does care and will address employee concerns and communicate clearly (within reason)
  • Company does actually care about diversity and equity and puts in the effort to try and make everyone feel welcome
Cons
  • Long Beach buildings are not the nicest physical places to work. Wormhole building is very spread out and very loud, and Portal building has no air conditioning.
  • Sometimes it feels like I'm the odd man out for being interested in my job outside of work instead of having more diverse hobbies.
  • Middle of the pack compensation for a tech company, which means high base pay but nothing else like no stock, 401k, or bonus.
  • Inconsistent promotions, and under my old manager it felt very unfair, but under my new manager it is much better thankfully.
  • Very frequent management shakeups, especially in the 2022-2023 timeframe. Barely a month went by without some kind of re-org.
Advice to Management
  • Recent changes have made promotions more prompt and fair, which is really good.
  • Wormhole building is really not a nice place to work for tech workers compared to what a large majority of companies are offering.
  • DEI programs have gone somewhat downhill in the last year or two. It feels like less of a priority than it used to be, though still not bad. It just feels like leadership is delegating DEI stuff to employee volunteers rather than having a dedicated DEI person anymore.
