Cool product that customers are excited about. Rivian was a great place to be a few years ago before the IPO. There was a lot of energy around working hard to build something customers would love. I loved many of the people I worked with, and I'll miss the camaraderie that came from being at the center of something special.
The C-suite and the next level down have made a series of missteps over the years that have put the ultimate success of Rivian in jeopardy. Market forces have been challenging, but could have been weathered better with better leadership at all levels. Frequent reorganizations led to a situation where people felt a lack of stability about what we were working on and reporting to. I hope they find a way to turn it around for the better.
Streamline the number of projects. Cut e-bikes; there's no way that could possibly be a profitable endeavor. Reward loyal employees who have, in many cases, been forced to assume the work of 3-4 people with no promotions and no raises after years of excellent performance. RJ needs to hear opinions other than those of his direct reports.
Phone screen. Onsite: 4 rounds. * Coding * Behavioral * Scalability * Informal chat Offer extended in under a week after the onsite was done.
The interview went through each of the portions in the job description. I needed to expand on experience in defining safety-critical designs, how to make manufacturing more efficient, troubleshooting processes, etc.
The interview felt average overall. I thought it went well at the time, but I was ultimately rejected without receiving any feedback. This left me uncertain about areas for improvement. Nothing was too difficult to answer.
