Data Modeler Interview Experience - Detroit, Michigan
Process
I applied online in April 2020 for a Data Modeler role in Detroit, MI. The process took 3 weeks in total.
It started with 2 recruiter rounds where I interviewed with 2 different people. Both of them asked me pretty much the same housekeeping questions (Tell me about yourself, are you willing to relocate, why do you want to join QL).
After this, I was given a take-home data modeling assignment (48 hours) and was asked to create a PPT on the same.
Next round was with 3 team members where I was asked to present the PPT and was asked questions on my process and thinking.
The last round was again with the team.
Questions
Values are very important for QL, so I was asked a few behavioral questions to see if I match the work culture.

It’s not, it’s way below standard. - PTO: they recently cut 1 week from everyone, choosing an increase in 401K matching because they said this is what employees wanted. For those that have been here 5-10 years, you get 5 weeks PTO (sick and vacation combined!). Pray you or your family don’t get sick often or you can say goodbye to your vacation. They’re finding more and more ways to maximize your working time for their own profits. It’s clear they don’t value work/life balance. - Holidays: they JUST gave the day after Thanksgiving off to “compensate” for the PTO change. Additionally there is no President’s Day, no Christmas Eve (this alone should already tell you a lot), no NYE off. - Healthcare: when my company got acquired by Rocket, my healthcare cost doubled.
