Process

The interview process consists of five stages:

  • 30-minute call with the recruiter to discuss a match to the position and the company.
  • 45-minute call with the VP of Engineering, focusing on personal questions regarding current and previous roles and challenges.
  • 1.5-hour live coding interview with two senior engineers.
  • 1.5-hour design interview with a Team Leader.
  • 45-minute interview with a Director.

Each step is scheduled on a different day and is dependent on the previous one.

Questions

  1. Typical Recruiter call discussing some of my experience and explaining the job and the company.
  2. Included a personal talk, discussing my experience more in depth. Asked questions about difficulties I faced, or how I would behave in certain situations.
  3. Coding Interview consisted of describing a feature/project I had worked on, with some technical details and questions on why and how. Then there was a coding question using the HackerRank platform:
    • Implement a RateLimiter.
  4. Started again by describing a project I had worked on. Then there were 2 System Design questions and another coding question:
    • Design how to add UPDATE/DELETE to a DB that only has INSERT capabilities.
    • Design a system that has 3 data storage instances (DB, S3, and data warehouse) and needs to get an "export all" trigger from the user. This system then zips all available user data from the different 3 storage instances and sends a URL to the user where they can find the exported data.
    • Implement a map that supports setAll in O(1).

Overall, I went through the questions pretty fast since they weren't that complicated. Throughout the process, I received positive feedback from the interviewer, without many follow-up questions, and they kept moving forward to the next question. We finished the interview with 40 minutes left. However, I was rejected with feedback that I used the wrong data structure. The recruiter couldn't specify which part of the last interview it was.
