This is regarding my experience with Salesforce Dublin, Ireland.
Overall, it was a disappointing experience. The process felt a bit opaque, and even HR didn't seem to have all the details. It appeared that only the hiring manager drove the process.
HR initially contacted me and proceeded with scheduling. At the time, I had a few offers and shared this with HR, mentioning I had a couple of weeks to accept. HR got back after discussing with the hiring manager and promised a final decision by the end of the two weeks. Thursday was the day they committed to providing a yes or no.
The interviews themselves went well. The panel was professional and nice. After the first couple of interviews, they scheduled another pair. The only quirk was that I was not informed about the interview format, and even the HR team did not know the format; HR was also not informed.
Upon starting the third interview, about five minutes in, I was told it would be a coding interview. While a bit unpleasant, the coding round went well. The fourth interview also went well, and the panel seemed quite happy with me, even stating I'd be a good fit for the team.
After all four interviews were completed, I waited a day and then reached out to HR. They had no feedback. As my deadline was approaching, I reached out again, but HR was not yet informed by the hiring manager.
A couple of days later, as my deadline neared (they had promised a decision), HR reached out and told me the interview feedback was overall positive. However, they wanted to interview a couple more candidates and needed one more week. This was disappointing, as it was a decision directly from the hiring manager, not HR. I found this unprofessional.
I was disappointed by such behavior from the hiring manager at Salesforce. The hiring manager should not have made that promise in the first place.
Another oddity throughout the whole process was that the hiring manager/engineering manager never directly communicated with me. This is unusual, as in all previous interviews at companies like Twitter, hiring managers have always conducted at least one round. This also sowed doubt in my mind that perhaps I was interviewed merely for documentation, to show that several candidates were interviewed, and that the hiring manager might have already identified someone else. I felt like I was just a formality, a number.
The HR team was very good and prompt in their communication. Overall, it was a disappointing experience, and I did not expect such behavior. I guess Salesforce is not truly at FAANG level. I have given FAANG interviews, and they are very well-organized, with transparent hiring managers who lead from the front.
I believe the hiring manager at Salesforce was quite arrogant in my case, which left a really bad impression. I will not apply or recommend colleagues to apply there. They are quite unprofessional, and you cannot take their commitments or promises at face value.
