I had two phone interviews with salesforce.com for this position.
The first interview focused on data structures and algorithms. I was asked if I knew what MVC is and how I would design a parking garage using object-oriented modeling. Standard questions included how I would find two numbers that add up to zero (or any other number) in constant time and then using constant memory, as well as a question about finding a Tribonacci number (the sum of the three previous numbers). We discussed why recursion would be inefficient for this and how to achieve it in constant space, and I wrote and explained the code for QuickSort.
The second interviewer asked me about Natural Language Processing, as I had mentioned taking a course on it in my resume. After that, they asked how I would find a missing number given 999 numbers out of a thousand, and then what the solution would be if two numbers were missing. I initially thought I had performed poorly in the second interview, as I needed hints for these questions. However, as my first interview went very well, I was ultimately given the offer.
In contrast to what I've read elsewhere, both of my interviewers were friendly and nice. Furthermore, because I had another offer with an approaching deadline, the recruiting team ensured my interviews were scheduled promptly.
Quick Sort code.
Find a pair of numbers that sums up to zero (or any other number), then find three (and then four) numbers that sum up to zero.
Given 999 distinct numbers between 1 and 1000, find one or two that are missing.
