I applied online and received an email about a week later to set up an initial phone call. A few days after that, I had a technical interview. They provided positive feedback, indicating I would move forward with the interview process. My on-site interview was scheduled for a week later. I was very excited about the on-site interview and prepared as thoroughly as I could.

For the technical interview, they asked me to download a project beforehand. I set it up on my Windows machine. During the interview, we were working through the rest of the project setup. However, this is where things went wrong. The command the interviewer sent me was for MacOS (Unix) and it did not work on Windows.

We spent 10-15 minutes of our 45-minute interview trying to resolve this setup issue, so we did not get to finish the coding challenge. I was disheartened that I had prepared for this interview for a week, only to fail the first part due to an environmental issue with the coding challenge. This caused me to lose focus for the rest of the interview process. Surprisingly, I felt I performed well for the remainder of the interview and received some positive feedback.

I never heard back regarding the next steps or overall feedback after the on-site interview. I suspect that because it was a competitive position, failing to complete the initial part of the interview may have cost me the selection. Every person involved in the interview process was friendly and nice.

I had to provide negative feedback for this review because the environmental issue, which was not part of my skill assessment, impacted my interview.
