Process

Hello All,

Recently, I went through the interview process for SAP LABS INDIA for the job title: Associate DevOps Engineer (SAP BASIS). The entire process consisted of four rounds: two technical, one technical/managerial, and one HR round. All four interviews were conducted via Teams (video call). Interestingly, only I was visible to the interviewers; they did not turn on their cameras once.

Technical Round 1:

This was my first interview after placement, so I was a little tense. The first round was quite to the point. The interviewer wanted to check my basics in SAP Basis. He went through my entire resume and asked questions about everything mentioned in the roles and responsibilities section. Questions covered:

  • TMS
  • KERNEL UPGRADE
  • HANA DB
  • Basic monitoring
  • T-codes

The interview lasted for an hour and fifteen minutes. I believe the interviewer was impressed by my answers. At the end of this round, I was confident about proceeding to the next one.

Technical Round 2:

Following the positive outcome of the previous interview, I was very confident and eagerly awaiting the next round. This time, however, the interviewer focused on troubleshooting aspects. During the 40-minute interview, I was asked questions about the depth of HANA installation and HANA Studio, kernel upgrades, some TMS, printer-related issues, dumps, batch job investigation, t-codes, and more. Midway through the interview, I had a strong feeling that I might not be selected for further rounds. To be honest, I could only answer about 60% of the questions; for the rest, I was either unaware or had very limited insight. At the end, the interviewer recommended some SAP books.

Surprisingly, I cleared this interview as well. My assumption is that this round was designed to test my ability to handle pressure and work in challenging situations. Regardless, I was very happy to have cleared the second round.

Technical/Managerial (3rd Round):

I felt confident before this interview but was slightly tense due to the second round. Once the interview began, the interviewer asked me about myself, my college life, my family background, and my responsibilities in my current project. Based on my responses, he asked some questions about ticket handling, upgrades, and installations, but these were all basic questions. He also showed interest in my college life and the subjects I had studied. At the end, he commented that I was very good at my work and mentioned that HR would reach out soon. I was delighted, and the very next day, the HR interview was scheduled.

HR Round:

As the name suggests, this round was not very technical. The interviewer asked me to introduce myself and explain my current project. I felt he was assessing my communication skills and expressions. He then moved on to the salary discussion. I was surprised to receive a 140% hike.

One key takeaway from all these interview rounds is the importance of being specific in answers and avoiding irrelevant rambling. It is better to admit you don't know rather than providing an incorrect answer.
