Process

I was contacted within 10 days of my application. I had two rounds (generally people have three).

Round 1 (Phone interview with an engineer):

  • Basic Java questions: inheritance, polymorphism, abstraction, access modifiers, etc.
  • Basic networking concepts: What is a subnet mask? How does the internet work?
  • Testing question: How would you test a mobile app like YouTube?
    • Answer: Test on different signal strengths, different battery levels, rotate the device to see if the display remains okay. If I receive a call in between, my video should resume from where it paused (think of as many scenarios as you can).

Round 2 (Panel interview with 4-5 people):

This was also a phone interview, but I was asked to connect through GoToMeeting (tip: install the software well in advance).

  • OSI network model and an example of a protocol used in each layer.
  • Subnet masking: I was given an IP address and asked how many hosts could be connected.
  • Algorithm on anagrams: I was asked to code this on a shared screen. They not only wanted to know how many anagrams but also wanted the output strings in the same format as the input, which took me a bit of time (perhaps that's why I wasn't considered for the development team).
  • Again, how to test a mobile application.
  • Basic Java questions.

They wanted to close the position soon, so one round was skipped. To my friends, some puzzles were also asked in the final round.

Hope you all find this helpful. Good luck.

Questions

The output strings should be the same as the input. Since I was trying to sort the input strings in the process of finding anagrams, I took a bit of time to figure out how I could get the original string.
