Process

The interview rounds were all virtual, and I was interviewed for the Bangalore location. The entire process took approximately 6 weeks, with roughly one round per week. HR was responsible for scheduling all the rounds.

  1. Technical Round 1: Focus on Ansible, Python, Docker, Kubernetes, OpenStack, and other DevOps topics. Three to four questions were asked per topic, some as questions and answers, and others requiring practical demonstrations.

    • Ansible ad-hoc commands to check file system usage and run commands on servers.
    • A Python program to validate an IP address.
    • Roles of various OpenStack services.
    • Roles of nova-conductor and nova-scheduler in OpenStack.
    • Several AWS-related questions.
    • Practical "do and show" questions related to Kubernetes and Terraform.
  2. Technical Round 2: Primarily focused on programming, Ansible, and Solutions Architect concepts, including AWS services like EC2, ELB, S3, and IAM.

    • A Python program to read user input (integer) and print the indices of two list elements whose sum equals the user input, with minimal runtime complexity.
    • An Ansible playbook for basic tasks like installing and managing services.
  3. Technical Round 3 (Team Manager): Centered on Python, AWS Solutions Architecture, and other DevOps aspects.

    • System design and architectural approaches for applications.
    • Application migration strategies between cloud and on-premise environments.
    • AWS-related questions covering EC2, ELB, monitoring, auto-scaling, AMI, and storage options.
  4. VP Round (Technical): Covered Kubernetes, AWS, programming, and management.

    • Several moderate-level questions on the aforementioned topics.
    • Primarily a "get to know you" round.
    • Discussion about the product I would be working on and its market competitors.
  5. Non-LoB Round: Focused on DevOps, Solutions Architecture, monitoring, microservices, and DORA metrics.

    • This round was conducted by a different project member (outside the line of business) to assess suitability for other projects.
  6. HR Round:

    • Discussion of feedback received from previous rounds and plans for improvement.
    • General get-to-know-you and behavioral questions.

Overall, it was a moderate interview. All interviewers were kind and knowledgeable. Each of the first three rounds lasted approximately 1 to 1.5 hours. I was happy with how the interview progressed. The week-long gaps between rounds, however, increased my anxiety about previous performance and the possibility of proceeding to the next stage.

Ultimately, it was worthwhile, as I was selected and offered the position.
