In many cases, the management doesn't care what you do and how you add value to the product, only how you can sell yourself. Without networking skills, you cannot jump to the next level.
The responsibility/salary rate at the senior level is a joke. I see senior colleagues doing nothing, and the manager doesn't care, but they get a huge salary. Management should review how much value one adds to the project.
