Process

First, I had a phone screen with HR, which included routine, general questions about my experiences, background, and past.

After that, they scheduled a two-hour online video call. The first part, lasting one hour, was called "Life Story." During this segment, I was asked about every detail from my childhood to school years, university, job experiences (both related and unrelated to my major), my lifestyle, and more.

The second part was a coding challenge that was quite easy. The main focus was on how I would approach the problem, solve it, debug it, or resolve issues if I encountered them. It was very straightforward and took only one-third of the designated time.

Following this, I was invited for an on-site interview, which had four parts, each lasting one hour.

  • Two coding challenge sessions (pair programming):

    • In one, I had to write code from scratch based on a problem presented.
    • In the other, I was given existing code and asked to contribute by changing parts or adding a feature.
    • I believe the primary focus of these challenges was on design, clean code, debugging, effective internet searching when needed, and writing tests for all edge cases.
  • One informal chat with a tech lead during lunch.

  • One deep dive technical session.

After all these sessions, I had a half-hour chat with HR again.

Although it was called pair programming, it wasn't truly collaborative. One of my interviewers barely looked at the code and was solely interested in the outcome. He didn't even answer my questions to clarify the task thoroughly. This caused some stress during the programming segment.

In the Technical Deep Dive session, I was asked about my technical responsibilities, contributions, achievements, and how I handled challenges. I was very satisfied with this session. However, after being rejected by the company, I was surprised to receive feedback that in some instances, I spoke generally rather than providing details. This feedback seemed illogical, as I felt capable of elaborating further if prompted.

At the end, you will receive feedback for each of these sessions, explaining why an offer was not extended.
