Process

I applied online. The process took 3 weeks.

The interview process was nice. There was an OOD question where you implement a very simple class. It was super important to explain your thought process and speak out loud. It was pair programming.

Then in the behavioral, there is a hard cutoff at 30 mins. Two important questions to answer are:

"Why SWE"
"Why Shopify" So get really good answers for those.

Good starting salary but poor management and no growth

Pros: There is a pretty good starting salary for Canada. There are good people and a nice office.

Cons: Management is all eyes and no ears. You can't really move to full-time since apparently you need to sell your soul and free time just for a chance to be considered. Expect to have a billion tabs open and to be juggling five tickets at once, with the manager pinging you every hour to ask if it's done and to berate you that you are not using AI more to get it done faster. There is no career progression. Only seniors are hired, and everyone else is fired.
